5 Tips to throw a Spooky Halloween Party

I promise this is the last time I post something about Halloween (at least this year). I thought it would be good to give my 5 best tips to throw a spooky Halloween Party.

A spook-tacular entrance

First impressions count and will get your guests in a party mood. Make sure you give them a boo-tiful welcome with a super-scary front door. Deck with Jack O’lanterns (make your own with a stencil or opt for decorations that can be used year after year), bats, spiders, skeletons, skulls, webs and ghost motifs – just a few small touches will look spine-chillingly spectacular.

Get the kids in character

Dressing up is everyone’s favourite part of Halloween, so have fun transforming your kids into werewolves, wicked witches and vampires with costumes and with and face paint. For a less-mess option, masks are the perfect alternative. Keep a bowl of props at your party handy (vampire teeth, moustaches, fake noses etc) and let your guests add to their own outfits.

Spooky snacks

We love all sorts but here are some cupcake ideas!!

Create an eerie atmosphere

Halloween is all about things that go bump in the night so turn the lights down low at your party and let some creepy characters dotted around the room provide the atmosphere for you. Fairy lights will also look great twined around plants, pillars and banisters and a few candles and lanterns on a gauze-draped mantel will set the mood, too.

Spine-tingling table decorations

Don’t forget to decorate your table, even if it’s just for buffet food, and swap the usual dinnerware for fun plates, bowls and tumblers. A bowl of fruit punch – blood red with cranberry juice – makes plenty of impact, as do mini pumpkins, plastic spiders and gummy worms interspersed between the treats.

Its all about treats

Give trick or treaters a chilling sweet treat from a dedicated decorated bowl. Repurpose an existing one and wrap in black gauze or invest in a frightful dedicated one that can be brought out every Halloween. You can also use bowls for party favours for your guests as they leave.

Ghoulish games

Put a Halloween spin on traditional party games – charades with scary book and movie titles, pass the parcel with Halloween treats between the layers, make a mystery box or scavenger hunts for your Halloween decorations.
We love mystery boxes. We fill each part with different gooy and suprising textures like, e.g. cold spaghetti, jelly, yoghurt and for the non veggy ones chicken filets. It's always a big success!

Happy halloween!
